Since 2016, Bradley Eastman has been excited to work with a number of schools and education programs around Australia as an Artist-in-Residence. Working with schools gives Bradley the opportunity to inspire and develop young artistic talent, and ultimately, the school community can enjoy the mural for years to come.
These school projects are quite varied and customised to each school depending on budget, mural size, location and timelines. Each School project is unique and each school can specify which of the below aspects they would like to include during the Artist-in-Residence program. We can cater to the schools budget and timeframes as needed.
Depending on the size and complexity of the mural to be painted, Brad often travels to the school and is on site daily for anywhere from 1 to 10 days to paint a permanent mural during school hours. By installing the artwork during school hours, the students become part of the artwork and get to witness the entire process from start to finish. This enables the students to see the various materials, techniques and skills required to create a large scale mural, which then in turn inspires the students to express, develop and showcase their own creativity. The final result absolutely uplifts the whole school, giving a sense of ownership and pride to the students and the entire school community. To have large scale murals on your school walls is to send the message that the arts are important.
Bradley’s workshops provide personal creative counsel to the students, teaching them an understanding of various tools, mediums, application and planning. Students develop a sense of innovation, creative thinking and are encouraged to not be afraid of making mistakes, with the end result of each workshop being an artwork designed and executed by the students themselves which they can take home with them. The workshops often work best with around 5-10 students at a time to allow for as much 1 on 1 mentorship as possible, with an ideal duration of anywhere between 2 hours and 8 hours.
Bradley shares the story of his own creative journey and the various career paths, education, challenges and highlights he experienced along the way. Bradley’s artist talks are very interactive and relaxed with a presentation of images and videos, and always allows for plenty of Q&A from students.
